Bhubaneswar, October 15: China reaffirmed its global supremacy in table tennis with a commanding double victory in the men’s and women’s team championships, sweeping past Hong Kong and Japan respectively in the finals, at the Asian Table Tennis Team Championships, which concluded at Athletics Indoor Stadium, Kalinga Stadium here on Wednesday.


The emphatic 3–0 wins not only highlighted China’s unmatched depth and tactical brilliance but also signaled the rise of a new generation of stars ready to carry the torch forward.

 

In the men’s final, world No. 1 Lin Shidong set the tone with a clinical dismantling of Wong Chun Ting, winning 11–8, 11–4, 11–4. His aggressive forehand and relentless pace left no room for recovery. Wang Chuqin followed with a gritty four-game win over Chan Baldwin, showcasing resilience and flair, especially in a tense fourth game that ended 14–12. Liang Jingkun sealed the deal with a composed 13–11, 11–6, 12–10 victory over Yiu Kwan Go, completing China’s clean sweep.

The women’s team mirrored their male counterparts with equal dominance. Wang Manyu overcame an early setback to defeat Honoka Hashimoto in four games, adjusting her strategy mid-match to overpower the Japanese defender. Sun Yingsha, the world No. 1, neutralized teenage prodigy Miwa Harimoto with a blend of tactical serves and blistering backhands, winning in straight games. Rising star Kuai Man then delivered the final blow, rallying from a game down to beat Hina Hayata 8–11, 12–10, 11–6, 11–9, showcasing nerves of steel and strategic brilliance.

 

With this double triumph, China not only extended its legacy in the sport but also demonstrated the seamless transition of talent across generations. Their dominance remains unshaken, their hunger undiminished.
