CHES Holds "Rooftop Gardening and Urban Horticulture" Seminar

Bhubaneswar, Feb 27: Central Horticultural Experiment Station (CHES), ICAR-Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, Bhubaneswar, organised a two-day seminar on "Rooftop Gardening and Urban Horticulture" at the CHES here recently.
The seminar was organised under the guidance of noted scientist Dr P Srinibas.
On the first day, The Eminent Horticulture Scientist of the OUAT, Dr PC Lenka, and CHES Scientist Dr A V V Koundinya shared with the attendees about benefits of urban farming and cultivation of fruits, vegetables and flower-bearing plants in various seasons.
IIHR Eminent Scientist Dr Kalaivanan D discussed about , discussed various methods and soil used for undertaking rooftop gardening and houseyard horticulture. It also discussed methods of cultivation without soil and through coconut coir and cocopit.

✨Rooftop gardening and houseyard horticulture farming are currently being undertaken in five major cities- Bhubanewar, Cuttack, Berhampur, Sambalpur, and Jeypore with the technical support of ICAR-IIHR and CHES.
Radha Siva Ramya, Associate Professor, Atria University, Bangalore gave a detailed demonstration of the production process of microgreens. On the second day, two important sessions were held. Dr JN Das and Dr Laxman Palatasingh compered the session. People involved in the nursery shared their knowledge. They shared their achievements related to nursery and easy availability of equipment, saplings, seeds in urban areas and how their services can be made more accessible in the coming days.
