Centre Sanctions ₹769 Crore for 10 Key Road Projects in Odisha
Union Government Approves Major Road Infrastructure in Odisha

Key Points

The Union Government has sanctioned 10 road projects worth over ₹769 crore under CRIF for Odisha, enhancing connectivity in tribal, coastal, and urban regions.
New Delhi, May 7:The Union Government has approved 10 major road infrastructure projects in Odisha under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) for the 2026-27 financial year, with a total estimated cost of over ₹769 crore (₹76,969.17 lakh). Announced in early May, these projects are designed to strengthen connectivity across remote areas, tribal districts, and coastal regions, while boosting economic growth and reducing travel time.

Key Approved Projects
The sanctioned projects include a mix of bridge, road, and urban infrastructure developments. Among them is the Rampela Approach Bridge in Jharsuguda at a cost of ₹52.69 crore. Road improvement works will be undertaken in Koraput (Semiliguda-Handiput, Lamataput-Machhkund), Nabarangpur (Umerkot-Chandahandi-Malgaon), and Gajapati districts.

Urban connectivity will see a major boost with two flyovers in Berhampur (Ganjam) - one connecting Tata Benz Chowk to MKCG Chhak and another linking Giri Road Chowk to Old Bus Stand - together accounting for over ₹314 crore. Regional connectivity projects include the expansion of the Khariar Road-Amodhi-Belthukuri road in Nuapada and the Jaleswar-Batagram-Chandaneswar road in Balasore.

Broader Infrastructure Drive
This initiative follows a larger sanction of ₹44,771 crore for national and state highway projects during the 2025-26 fiscal year. Key projects under that drive include:

  • 8-lane expansion of the Bhubaneswar–Puri highway

  • 6-lane upgrade of the Tangi–Puintala–Ichhapuram stretch

  • 8-lane expansion of the Rourkela–Barbil–Paradip corridor

  • 6-lane access-controlled Capital Region Ring Road (Bhubaneswar Bypass)

  • Together, these multi-year projects are expected to significantly improve Odisha’s logistics, industrial connectivity, and socio-economic development.

  • Officials noted that the CRIF-backed projects will particularly benefit tribal and coastal districts by improving access to healthcare, education, and markets, while the urban flyovers will ease congestion in Berhampur, one of Odisha’s busiest cities.

  • With these approvals, Odisha is set to witness a major transformation in its road infrastructure, reinforcing the state’s role as a key hub for industrial growth and regional connectivity.
