Puri, May 6: The Central Government has given the green signal for the construction of a new airport in Puri, allowing direct air services to the holy city and the revered shrine of Lord Jagannath.
The approval comes from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, as part of the government’s efforts to strengthen India’s aviation infrastructure.
Along with Puri, Kota in Rajasthan has also received approval for a new airport.
Union Minister for Civil Aviation, Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu, has granted policy clearance for the establishment of these two greenfield airports. The airport project in Puri is expected to boost tourism, regional development, and connectivity, making travel easier for thousands of devotees and tourists visiting the famous pilgrimage site every year.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation has stated that the new Puri airport will enhance direct connectivity between Puri and major metropolitan cities across India, facilitating easy air travel for pilgrims and visitors. Similarly, the airport in Kota, Rajasthan, fulfills a long-awaited demand and is expected to significantly boost connectivity and infrastructure development in the region.
The decision to establish the Kota airport is the result of continuous efforts by Lok Sabha Speaker and Kota-Bundi MP Om Birla.
