CBI Cracks Down on Corruption: ED Deputy Director Arrested in Bribery Case

Key Points

Senior ED official caught red-handed accepting bribe from mining businessman in Bhubaneswar.

Bhubaneswar, May 30: In a major crackdown on corruption, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Chintan Raghuvanshi, Deputy Director of the Enforcement Directorate (ED), for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹20 lakh from a mining businessman in Odisha.

The arrest took place following a trap operation conducted by the CBI based on credible intelligence.

According to sources, Raghuvanshi, a 2013-batch Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer, was caught red-handed while receiving the bribe amount in Bhubaneswar. The businessman had reportedly approached the CBI after being coerced into paying the bribe to settle a case related to his mining operations.

The investigation revealed that Raghuvanshi had initially demanded ₹2 crore to dismiss the case but later agreed to accept ₹20 lakh as the first installment. The CBI laid a trap and apprehended him during the transaction.

Along with Raghuvanshi, a middleman named Bhakti Behera was also arrested for facilitating the bribery deal. Both individuals were interrogated overnight before being formally placed under arrest.

The case has raised serious concerns about corruption within enforcement agencies, prompting calls for stricter oversight and accountability. The CBI has assured that further investigations will be conducted to uncover any additional links to the bribery scandal.
