Bhadrak, July 24: In a joint operation, Town Police and Puruna Bazaar Police rescued 13 cattle from being illegally smuggled from a neighbouring district.

The crackdown occurred in the Kantabania locality, where the suspects were reportedly unloading cattle from a pickup van.

Upon spotting police personnel, the alleged cattle smugglers fled the scene, abandoning both the vehicle and the animals.

Later, authorities seized the van and discovered 16 cattle on board, of which three were found dead, likely due to overcrowding and poor conditions. The remaining thirteen animals were rescued and relocated to the Ranitala Gosala shelter.

Police have launched a detailed investigation into the incident and are actively searching for those involved in the smuggling.
