Ganjam, Jul 16: A 60-year-old person was killed while four others sustained critical injuries after the SUV they were travelling in crashed into the wall of a roadside shop. The incident was reported at Kotinada Square under Ask area in Ganjam district.

According to reports, the incident took place late last night when a Maruti Suzuki car carrying 60-year-old Dhoba Mahanti, and three other family members — Dhirendra Swain, Sunita Swain, and Divya Shankar Swain — was returning from Sambalpur to their hometown in Pathara.

Meanwhile, the driver, Kartik Mahanti, allegedly lost control of the vehicle near Kotinada Square, causing the car to veer off the road and dashed the vehicle into the wall of a roadside shop.

While Dhoba Mahanti was declared dead at the scene, four other occupants sustained serious injuries.

On being informed, police reached the spot and rushed the injured to Aska hospital. They were later shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital at Berhampur.
