Rayagada, May 13: A major burglary left a prominent businessman in Shikarpai in Rayagada district devastated, as a gang of robbers made off with gold and silver ornaments worth lakhs.

The theft took place at the house of one Gopalcheti Upendra, a business man by profession.

According to reports, around 8 to 10 miscreants, arrived in a Bolero and forcefully entered the house, wielding weapons to threaten the residents. During the violent break-in, the burglars snatched gold jewellery from Upendra’s wife and looted an old cupboard containing over 2 kg of gold before fleeing the scene.

The businessman suffered minor injuries after being attacked with knives.

Upon receiving information, SDPO Gaurahari Sahu and Kalyansinghpur police rushed to the scene and initiated an investigation.

As of now, the police have not been able to track down the perpetrators, and their response to the incident remains awaited.
