Balasore, Aug 7: The Excise Department has seized 140 grams of brown sugar, valued at approximately Rs 14 lakh, and arrested one person in connection with the case.
The operation was led by Nilgiri Excise Inspector Keshab Chandra Das and Officer-in-Charge Jagannath Behera, who deployed a special undercover team in Santaragadia under Nilgiri police limits. Officers disguised as locals, tracked and apprehended the accused, identified as Jagadish Panigrahi alias Lulu.
The contraband was recovered during a surprise raid, and the accused was immediately taken into custody.
Following his arrest, he was produced before the Balasore court.
In recent weeks, similar seizures have been reported in Khordha and Nayagarh districts, with authorities intensifying surveillance and intelligence efforts.
Officials emphasised that the crackdown is part of a broader campaign to dismantle drug networks and protect communities from the rising threat of narcotics.
