Bhubaneswar, May 25: Odisha’s coastal city of Puri will host the second thematic meeting of the BRICS Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group (BRICS DRRWG) from June 3 to 5, 2026.
Delegates and experts from BRICS nations, including Brazil, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, UAE, and China, will participate in the high-level discussions. The meeting will focus on disaster management, resilience building, and strengthening international cooperation.
Odisha was chosen as the venue in recognition of its proactive and successful disaster preparedness and management strategies. The state has earned global praise for its cyclone management, community-based early warning systems, and effective evacuation and rescue operations.
