State Government Plans Major Religious Tourism Boost with Shakti Corridor
Ganjam, Apr 8: The Odisha government is set to announce a transformative project — the Shakti Corridor — that will connect the state’s significant Shakti Pithas, enhancing spiritual tourism and cultural preservation. Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida revealed that the official declaration of the corridor will be made soon.
On the auspicious occasion of the last Tuesday of Chaitra month, Parida, along with Law Minister Prithiraj Harichandan, visited the revered Maa Tara Tarini temple in Ganjam district, accompanied by Odisha Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhushan Jena and Fisheries & Animal Resources Minister Gokulananda Mallik. Their visit included prayers, temple inspections, and discussions with temple authorities regarding developmental initiatives.
The proposed Shakti Corridor will integrate renowned temples such as Maa Tara Tarini, Maa Biraja, Maa Ugratara, Maa Bhagavati, Maa Mangala, Maa Kalijai, and Maa Bhairavi, forming a sacred route for devotees and pilgrims.
The tourism department has allocated ₹60 crore for temple development, including ₹8 crore for Maa Tara Tarini and ₹11 crore for Taptapani, aiming to boost infrastructure and pilgrimage facilities. Plans are underway to enhance connectivity with helicopter services to key locations.
The government envisions the corridor as a spiritual and cultural hub, attracting devotees nationwide while promoting Odisha’s religious heritage.
With joint efforts from the tourism and public works departments, the corridor is expected to be operational within two years, strengthening Odisha’s significance as a centre for Shakti worship.
