Bhubaneswar, Oct 26: The Odisha unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday staged a protest march in Bhubaneswar, condemning Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge's controversial remark directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's late father during a public event in Patna, Bihar.

The protest was part of the BJP's nationwide response demanding an apology from the Congress leadership over the statement, party leaders said.

The demonstration was led by Bhubaneswar BJP president Niranjan Mishra and saw participation from senior BJP leader Jagannath Pradhan, members of the BJP Yuva Morcha, Mahila Morcha and other party functionaries.

When the protesters attempted to proceed towards the Congress office from Master Canteen Square, police intervened and prevented them from moving ahead. The situation remained under control.

Trigger for Protest

The BJP alleged that Kharge made a personal and derogatory remark against the Prime Minister's late father during a speech in Patna yesterday.

At the event, Kharge was interrupted by a member of the audience who reportedly shouted that Prime Minister Modi "would not go anywhere". In response, the Congress president said, "Modi ka baap bhi jayega" (Even Modi's father will go/be defeated), a remark that triggered a nationwide political controversy and drew sharp criticism from BJP leaders.

BJP Demands Apology

Addressing the gathering, Niranjan Mishra said the BJP would continue its protest until the Congress apologises to the people of the country for the statement.

Party leaders described the Congress President’s remark as disrespectful and unacceptable, asserting that political disagreements should not descend into personal attacks on family members.
