BJP Slams Odisha Govt Over 'Deteriorating' Law And Order

The State unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) attacked the Odisha government for the alleged deteriorating law and order situation, rising crime against women and political murder in the state in last few years.

Bhubaneswar, Dec 5: A day after NCRB report said that Odisha holds the top spot in cases related to cyber offences against women registered under the Information Technology Act in 2022, The State unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) attacked the Odisha government for the alleged deteriorating law and order situation, rising crime against women and political murder in the state in last few years.

Addressing a press conference here, BJP state general secretary Irasis Acharya launched a veiled attack on the BJD government over "deteriorating law and order situation in Odisha" in the State.

"According to the latest report of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), Odisha registered 269 cases for publishing or transmitting obscene videos and pictures of women and girls online which is the second highest in the country in 2022. Similarly, as many as 273 cases registered against cyber criminals in 2022 for morphing pictures of women and creating fake profiles online. The NCRB report also reveals that Odisha Police have registered 33 cases in 2022 against different persons for keeping various child pornography videos and pictures," Irasis Acharya said.

Pointing out the Ambabhona police station vandalism case, Irasis Acharya said, “Ambabhona police station in Bargarh district was vandalised by more than 100 BJD goons in the presence of Former Minister and Bhatli MLA Sushant Singh. Several cases were registered against 102 accused on charges of attempt to murder,obstructing the work of public servant, dacoity, threatening to kill and SC/ST atrocity act. However, the police only managed to arrest only 22 accused. Out of them, only four are in police custody and others have already been released on bail."

"The Police administration is helping to grant bail to the criminals involved in the Ambabhona police station vandalism case. The ruling BJD is making efforts to suppress such serious crime. 'Mo Police' (My Police) has now turned into 'BJD Police'", Irasis Acharya alleged.

"Why has Bhatli MLA Sushant Singh, involved in the vandalism of Ambabhona police station, not been investigated? Why are the BJD leaders and workers, public representatives and government officials involved in the incident not arrested?" questioned the BJP leader.

"If the police administration and the state government are incompetent, then the case should be transferred to the CBI for the interest of public safety," he demanded.

BJP's state media chief Dilip Mallik and his deputy Sujit Das were also present in the press conference.
