Bhubaneswar, Dec 9: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday announced the name of Sujeet Kumar as its candidate to fight the Rajya Sabha election for the lone seat in Odisha. 

The central election committee of the national party announced the name. Elections to vacant Rajya Sabha seats in the country are scheduled to be held on December 20. Only one seat has been lying vacant in Odisha since Sujeet Kumar resigned as BJD Member of the Upper House on September 6. 

According to the notification issued by the Election Commission of India, December 10 is the last date for the filing of nomination and the day after is the last day for scrutuny.  December 13 is the last date for withdrawal of candidature. 

Sujit Kumar is likely to win the seat as BJP has adequate numbers of MLAs in the State Assembly.
