Berhampur, Oct 20: A major development has emerged in the investigation into the alleged murder case of senior advocate and BJP leader Pitabash Panda here in Odisha. Police sources on Monday revealed that the motive behind the killing may be linked to political rivalry and past enmity, along with possible business-related disputes.
In a significant move, Berhampur police interrogated a
corporator from a specific political party and a well-known former student
leader over the past four days. Preliminary findings suggest both individuals
may have direct or indirect links to the crime. Including two others from the
city, a total of eight people are currently in police custody.
One more suspect was reportedly brought in from Bhubaneswar
for questioning yesterday. Investigators have also reviewed CCTV footage from
the national highway to trace movements related to the case.

So far, over 70 individuals have been questioned in
connection to the murder case. The suspects include people from Bihar, Andhra
Pradesh, Delhi, Bhubaneswar, West Bengal, and Ganjam. Police believe they are
close to uncovering the full chain of events and identifying the masterminds
behind the murder.

Meanwhile, police intensified their efforts to crack the
case, with strong leads and critical evidence now in hand. The veil over the
murder may soon be lifted, bringing clarity and justice to the shocking
incident, police said.
