Bhubaneswar, June 12: BJP leader Mohan Charan Majhi took oath as the Chief Minister of Odisha at a special ceremony held at Janata Maidan here on Wednesday.

Odisha Governor Raghubar Das administered the oath of the new Chief Minister, who succeeded BJD's Naveen Patnaik. 

Along with Majhi, senior BJP leader and Patnagarh MLA KV Singh Deo and debutant MLA from Nimapara assembly segment Pravati Parida took oath as Deputy Chief Ministers..

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was recently sworn in for a third consecutive term on June 9, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh were among the dignitaries present on the occasion.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath were also present in the oath taking ceremony. 

This is the first BJP government in Odisha after its emphatic performance in the recently concluded assembly polls, after it defeated the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), bringing an end to the latter's 24-year-old reign.
