Bhubaneswar, Dec 12: A delegation of the State unit of the BJP Krushak Morcha on Tuesday handed over a memorandum to Governor Raghubar Das, urging him to direct the Odisha government to pay compensation against paddy and vegetables due to heavy rains caused by low pressure between December 5 and 7.
The team led by Morcha State president Maheswar Sahu met the governor and apprised him about the damage of paddy, cotton, and vegetables on acres of land due to heavy rains caused by low pressure.
The team said farmers have been under stress as they are not able to repay loans they incurred for cultivation.
The State government should make an assessment of crop loss caused due to untimely rains and pay compensation to the affected farmers in 16 days, the party demanded.
Besides, the Morcha sought that the government provide seed, fertilizer, and insecticides to farmers free of cost soon so that they could take up Rabi cultivation.
