BJD Disciplinary Panel to Meet Amid Rising Internal Dissent

Key Points

Disciplinary committee meets at Sankha Bhawan to address internal unrest.

Action likely against leaders defying party decisions and leadership. Post-election dissent prompts BJD to reinforce organizational discipline.

Bhubaneswar, Sep 16: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) is set to hold a crucial disciplinary committee meeting this afternoon at its headquarters, Shankha Bhavan, as the party grapples with growing internal unrest following its recent electoral defeat.

The seven-member committee, formed to uphold party discipline and unity, includes senior leaders Debi Prasad Mishra, Chandra Sekhar Sahu, Sarada Jena, Sarmistha Sethi, Lopamudra Baxipatra, Rajashree Mallick, and Pradip Kumar Amat.

The meeting is expected to address statements made by several party members that allegedly defy the party line and challenge the authority of the leadership.

Sources indicate that the committee may take action against certain leaders who have publicly criticized the party supremo and violated internal protocols. The recent disciplinary action against Prafulla Mallik has already set a precedent, and further steps may be taken to curb indiscipline.

The meeting comes at a time when many senior leaders are reportedly distancing themselves from collective decisions and airing grievances in public forums. The party’s defeat in the last election has intensified scrutiny, with calls for introspection and restructuring.

The disciplinary committee, formed earlier this year to restore internal order, is tasked with reviewing such cases and recommending corrective measures. Tuesday’s meeting is expected to be a turning point in how the BJD manages dissent and reasserts its organizational control.

Party insiders believe that the outcome of this meeting will send a strong message to all members about the importance of unity and discipline, especially as the party prepares for upcoming by-elections and aims to rebuild its public image.
