Bhubaneswar, July 24: A young woman filed a serious complaint against Amaresh Jena, a senior Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader and a Corporator of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), here in Odisha on Thursday, alleging emotional and physical exploitation under the false promise of marriage.


The complaint, lodged at Laxmisagar Police Station, detailed a relationship that began during the 2023 Raja Festival, where Jena allegedly gifted her a mobile phone and later took her to Puri, maintaining physical intimacy based on deceptive assurances.


According to the woman, the relationship turned abusive, with threats of murder and coercion to undergo an abortion.


Following the complaint, police registered a case and recorded her statement under Section 183 of the BNS. She has also been sent for medical examination in this connection.

The allegations have sparked public and political attention, especially given Jena’s prior involvement in internal party disputes and controversies.


Advocate Sumanta Swain, representing the complainant, stated that the case involves grave violations of trust and criminal intimidation. He emphasized the need for a thorough and impartial investigation.


As of now, Amaresh Jena has not issued a public response to the allegations. The BJD leadership has remained silent, and no official statement has been released till the report was filed.
