Bird Flu Outbreak: Containment Efforts Intensified As Over 6,700 Chickens Culled In Emergency Response

Puri, Jul 15: Following confirmation of H5N1 avian influenza in Delang block of Odisha’s Puri district, the Animal Resources Department has launched aggressive containment measures to curb the spread of the virus.

As a part of the measure, around 6731 chickens were culled from two poultry farms in Benupada and Dakpada villages.

In addition, samples from 11 farms were collected over the past two days and sent to NIHSAD, Bhopal for testing after 24-hour deep freezing.

Meanwhile, disinfection operations are underway at three farms, with another farm in Benupada added today.

On the other hand, officials have urged poultry owners to report any unexplained bird deaths and avoid disposing of carcasses without notifying authorities.

The administration is awaiting further lab reports to determine additional steps. Surveillance continues within a 10-km zone, and poultry shops remain closed under strict biosecurity protocols
