Bhubaneswar, Jul 14: A suspected outbreak of bird flu in the Delang region of Odisha has prompted swift action from the state’s public health authorities.
The Directorate of Public Health has confirmed that a team will visit the affected area on Monday to assess the situation and coordinate containment efforts.
Director of Public Health, Dr. Nilakantha Mishra, stated that reports of poultry deaths had surfaced even before the official confirmation of bird flu. Local veterinary officials were alerted immediately, and precautionary measures were initiated.
The Veterinary Department has begun culling operations in the affected farms to prevent further spread of the virus. Meanwhile, the Public Health Department has distributed protective gear (PPE kits) and preventive doses to workers involved in the culling process.

Dr. Mishra added that any workers showing symptoms such as cold or cough will undergo swab testing to rule out human transmission. The health department is closely monitoring the situation and has advised residents to avoid contact with poultry in the region.
As a precaution, the transport and sale of poultry from Delang and Pipili areas have been temporarily suspended. Authorities are working to ensure that the outbreak is contained and does not spread to neighbouring regions.
