Bhubaneswar, Jan 18: The bird census has started at different lakes and large water sources across Odisha. Bird enumeration is going on at Bhitarkanika, Chilika, Brahmagiri, Bonai and Sambalpur.

As many as 21 teams have been deployed in five ranges across the Chilika lake to count birds.

Enumerators will count both country and foreign birds. The enumerators comprising wildlife officials and ornithologists have been provided with special training.

Notably, birds from far countries like Russia, Arabs, and Sudan visit Chilika Lake, Ansupa, and Hirakud Reservoir during the winter.

The forest department has taken adequate measures to protect the winged guests.
