Bhubaneswar, Jan 14: Performing of indecent dance numbers at Jatra (opera) shows has been banned during the Khandagiri Mela in Bhubaneswar this year, officials said on Tuesday.
The decision was taken at a meeting between the Police officials, the organizers of the Male and Jatra committee members, held at Khandagiri police station in the city.
According to sources, the Khandagiri Police refused to grant permission for dance on item numbers during Jatra shows which would kickstart with the beginning of Khandagiri Mela on Magha Saptami (seventh day of Magha month in Odia calendar), which will continue from February 6 to 17.

✨The police also directed the Jatra troupes not to allow popular item dancers Nisha Maharana, Bhagyashree Sahoo alias Sahu Bhauja and Rani Priyadarshini to perform during the nine-day long festival.
As many as 13 troupes have been permitted to perform at the Khandagiri Mela this year. These plays usually start at midnight and continue till early morning.
