Viksit Odisha / Bhubaneswar: IT Firms to Operate from Baramunda Bus Terminal

Key Points
- BSABT to host IT companies across two floors.
- Initiative expected to boost footfall and vendor business.
- Shops allotted through lottery with modern facilities.
- Odisha’s largest bus terminal handles 20,000 passengers daily.
Bhubaneswar, Jan 6: The Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Bus Terminal (BSABT) at Baramunda here in Odisha is poised to transform into a transport-cum-business hub with Information Technology companies set to begin operations from the facility, officials said on Tuesday.
The move is expected to boost commercial activity and
enhance the significance of the terminal beyond its role as a transit point.
The development was highlighted by Housing and Urban
Development Minister and Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) Chairman, Dr.
Krushna Chandra Mahapatra, during a function at BSABT where shop keys were
handed over to beneficiaries. Senior officials, including BDA Vice-Chairman
Chanchal Rana and the local corporator, were present at the ceremony.

Dr. Mahapatra noted that the integration of IT firms would
substantially increase footfall and create a vibrant atmosphere within the
terminal. He recalled that the Chief Minister had earlier announced the
establishment of a global visa application centre at BSABT and said the
addition of IT companies would further strengthen its profile as a
multi-functional hub. “This will ensure that small vendors provided shops here
flourish in the coming days,” he remarked.
The BDA has earmarked two floors of the terminal for IT
operations, paving the way for a unique blend of transport, services, and
technology under one roof. Vice-Chairman Rana added that the presence of IT
companies would directly benefit vendors, many of whom previously operated
outside the old terminal. “In the new BSABT, they have been provided
air-conditioned shops, enabling them to earn a dignified livelihood,” he said.
In September, the BDA conducted a lottery for the allotment
of 112 shops on a monthly rental basis, following a survey by the Odisha State
Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC). The shops are equipped with uninterrupted
power supply, water connections, and round-the-clock security. Agreements with
beneficiaries have already been signed.
