Bhubaneswar Development Authority Celebrates 43rd Foundation Day with New Urban Initiatives

Bhubaneswar, Sept 1: The Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) marked its 43rd Foundation Day with the inauguration of a state-of-the-art park and playground at K9B in Kalinga Vihar, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable urban development and community well-being.
The newly inaugurated facilities, unveiled by Dr. Krushna Chandra Mahapatra, Minister for Housing & Urban Development and Chairman of BDA, span a combined area of 3.66 acres and were developed at an estimated cost of Rs5.5 crore. Equipped with modern amenities such as an open gym, yoga pindi, walking track, toilets, changing rooms, sprinkler irrigation, and a secure compound wall, the site aims to promote active lifestyles and inclusive public spaces.
The event was attended by key dignitaries including Mayor Sulochana Das, MLA Sri Babu Singh, Principal Secretary Usha Padhee, and BDA Vice Chairman Dr. N. Thirumala Naik. Officials also announced that 20 playgrounds are being developed across Bhubaneswar at a total cost of Rs98 crore, with 19 nearing completion.
Later in the day, a formal Foundation Day programme was held at Jaydev Bhawan. Addressing the gathering, Minister Mahapatra emphasized the need for strategic urban planning to manage Bhubaneswar’s rapid growth. He called for collaborative efforts between citizens and authorities to enhance green cover, improve drainage systems, and elevate the city to global standards.
Mayor Das praised BDA’s role in fostering inclusivity and tackling climate-related urban challenges. MLA Babu Singh urged the authority to prioritize housing for the homeless, while Vice Chairman Dr. Naik reaffirmed BDA’s commitment to sustainable development. Employee representative Samir Mohanty advocated for a pension scheme for BDA staff.
The event concluded with the unveiling of BDA’s Annual Report and a vote of thanks by Smt. Snigdharani Dhal, Additional Commissioner (Establishment), BDA.
