Bhubaneswar: BDA Launches Survey For Left Parallel Road, Slum Families To Be Relocated

Key Points

BDA begins two-day demarcation survey for left parallel road project

Slum families in Chunukoli area to be enumerated for relocation

Bhubaneswar, Aug 5: The Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) launched a two-day demarcation and enumeration survey for the proposed left parallel road from OERC Square to Patharagadia. The initiative, which began on Tuesday and concludes Wednesday, is a critical step in advancing infrastructure while ensuring social responsibility, officials said.

The survey focuses on identifying families residing in the Chunukoli slum area who may be impacted by the road project. Under the directive of Dr. N. Thirumala Naik, Vice Chairman of BDA, four specialized teams—comprising officials from the Revenue Department, Works Department, BDA, and Commissionerate Police—have been deployed to conduct the fieldwork.

Senior officials, including the Additional Commissioner (Estate-II), Joint Commissioner (Enforcement) of BDA, Sub-Collector, and Tehsildar of Bhubaneswar, are supervising the process to ensure transparency and accuracy.

The left parallel road is a strategic urban development initiative designed to ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity in Bhubaneswar. The road will stretch from the Institute of Mathematics to Ekamra Kanan, passing through key junctions such as Patharagadia, Utkal Hospital, and Rail Vihar. While construction is underway in certain segments, land acquisition and removal of encroachments remain pivotal challenges.

This survey marks a significant step in balancing infrastructure growth with humane relocation practices. Families identified during the survey will be considered for rehabilitation under existing urban development policies, ensuring that progress does not come at the cost of vulnerable communities.

The BDA’s proactive approach reflects its commitment to inclusive urban planning, where development and dignity go hand in hand.
