Bhubaneswar, May 8: The Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar has been placed under high alert as authorities tighten security protocols across Odisha, after Pakistan’s unprovoked attack on several places in India on Thursday night. The move comes as part of a broader initiative to safeguard critical infrastructure, including defense installations, ports, and government buildings.

On Thursday night, an aerial attack by Pakistan targeting Jammu was successfully foiled by India’s air defence systems. The attempted strike, involving drones and missiles, triggered blackouts and sirens across several areas in Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, and Rajasthan. Authorities urged residents to remain indoors and vigilant as emergency protocols were activated.

India has reportedly undertaken retaliatory action in the wake of the attacks.

Sources said that heightened surveillance and security checks are in effect, with additional personnel deployed at key entry points and sensitive locations. Travelers have been advised to arrive at the airport well in advance due to stricter screenings and increased security presence.

Meanwhile, the airport witnessed disruptions in flight operations, with two flights canceled today—one due to nationwide airspace restrictions linked to Operation Sindoor, and another due to technical constraints. These measures have impacted several airports across India as security agencies conduct a comprehensive review of aviation safety.

Despite these challenges, authorities assured that normal flight operations are expected to resume after May 10, once airspace restrictions ease. Officials emphasize that these steps are purely precautionary and urge citizens to remain calm and cooperate with security personnel.
