The Bhitarakanika National Park will remain closed for visitors for nine days from tomorrow that is January 05 to January 13 due to saltwater crocodile census. 

Kendrapara, Jan 4: The Bhitarakanika National Park will remain closed for visitors for nine days from tomorrow that is January 05 to January 13 due to saltwater crocodile census. 

The counting of saltwater crocodiles and birds will be conducted for a total of nine days. 

 As per reports, the counting will be done under the observation of the DFO of Rajnagar Mangrove and Wildlife Division. 

The counting officers will cover the water inlets, nullahs, and creeks where the crocodiles are generally likely to reside.

According to the report, in January 2022, there were 1784 crocodiles were present, meanwhile in 2023, 1793 crocodiles were spotted in Bhitarakanika.
