Bhadrak, Aug 13: In a significant development, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Nepal Saha of Dhamnagar Police Station in Bhadrak district has been placed under suspension for alleged dereliction of duty in a high-profile minor girl abduction case.
Following directives from the Orissa High Court, Bhadrak SP Manoj Raut issued the suspension order.
According to the case details that took place on June 17, a 22-year-old man from Talapada village, along with two accomplices, allegedly abducted a schoolgirl from Kankara village under Dhamnagar police limits.
Despite an FIR being filed the same day, the victim and the accused remained untraced for 55 days.
Following the delay in the investigation, the victim’s family approached the Orissa High Court, which took serious note of the inaction and summoned both the Dhamnagar IIC and ASI Nepal Saha to appear in person on August 11.
The girl was eventually rescued by a special police squad from a rented house in Keonjhar district during a late-night operation.
Acting swiftly, ASI Saha was suspended for failing to act promptly and allegedly accepting a bribe during the investigation.
The rescued minor has undergone medical examination and is currently housed in a shelter home for care and counselling.
Police are now preparing to file additional charges against the accused, and further interrogation is underway to determine if others were involved.
