Berhampur, June 4: Odisha Vigilance officials on Wednesday arrested Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Berhampur Mahila Police Station while she was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000.
The accused officer has been identified as Babita Suna.
According to reports, the officer had demanded bribe of Rs 10000 in connection with a domestic dispute case filed at the police station involving Promod Kumar Nayak and his mother from Baliasingpala village under K. Nuagaon police limits.
Reportedly, the case was registered following a complaint by Promod’s wife against him and his in-laws.
ASI Babita Suna, who was the investigating officer in the case, allegedly sought the bribe to settle the matter. However, as she was accepting the money, Vigilance officials caught her red-handed.
Following the arrest, search operations were conducted at the police station and her government residence to gather further evidence.
