Bay of Bengal Brews Storm: Odisha on High Rain Alert

Bhubaneswar, Sep 12: A fresh low-pressure area has developed over the west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal, near the coasts of north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), this system is expected to intensify and move in a west-northwest direction over the next 48 hours, impacting several districts across Odisha and neighbouring regions.
The Regional Meteorological Centre has issued alerts for nine districts in Odisha, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds ranging from 30 to 40 km/h.

Koraput and Malkangiri districts are under an Orange Alert, anticipating intense downpours and stormy conditions. Meanwhile, Yellow Alerts have been issued for parts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Balasore, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj.
This weather system is likely to bring rainfall to Odisha until
September 17. The IMD has also indicated favourable conditions for the
withdrawal of the southwest monsoon from parts of western Rajasthan by
September 15.
