Khordha, Oct 6: In a tragic incident at Barunei Hills in Khordha district of Odisha, a police officer lost his life following a wild boar attack while attempting to rescue stranded tourists.
The deceased, Pradeep Kumar Perei, was a member of the 6th Battalion posted at the Barunei Beat House. Three others sustained serious injuries and are currently undergoing treatment at a local medical facility.

The incident occurred on Sunday when a group of tourists had ventured into the forested area of Barunei Hills for a picnic. Reports of a wild boar attack prompted a rescue operation by police and forest officials. Pradeep, along with other OSAP personnel, rushed to the spot to assist the trapped tourists. During the rescue attempt, Pradeep was fatally attacked by a wild boar.

✨The attack happened on-site, and despite efforts, Pradeep succumbed to his injuries. The rescue team itself became trapped during the operation, and it took nearly 10 hours for additional personnel to reach and safely evacuate all individuals involved.
The injured victims, all locals, were admitted to the hospital and are receiving medical care. Pradeep hailed from Madanpur under Korei police station in Jajpur district. This marks the first reported fatality due to a wild boar attack in the Barunei Hills region.
Authorities are reviewing the incident and considering
enhanced safety measures for forested tourist areas.
