Baramba, Jan 22: Odisha Vigilance sleuths have arrested a doctor of the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Baramba, Cuttack, Wednesday while demanding and taking bribe.
The accused has been identified as Dr Biswanath Adhek, Surgery Specialist at CHC, Baramba. He was apprehended while demanding and taking bribe of Rs 2,000 as second installment of overall demand of Rs 5,000.
According to a release issued by the Odisha Vigilance, Dr Adhek was taking bribe from a complainant to issue favourable post-mortem report of his deceased son and with assurance to depose favourable evidence in the court during trial.
The release further said that, few days ago, Dr Adhek has received Rs 2000 from the complainant, who, being a poor man and left with no option, reported the matter to the Vigilance Authority.
After the person's complaint, the vigilance sleuths made a plan and nabbed Dr. Adhek red-handed while taking bribe from the complainant.
The bribe amount of Rs 2,000 has been recovered from the possession of the accused. Following the trap, simultaneous searches are going on at two locations of Dr Adhek from DA (disproportionate assets) angle.
A case -- Cuttack Vigilance PS Case No.1 dtd.21.01.2025 U/s-7PC (Amendment) Act, 2018 -- has been registered in this connection. More details are awaited as investigation is underway.
