Cuttack, Apr 11: Cuttack’s much-awaited Barabati Food Court, located in front of the iconic Barabati Stadium, is finally set to open after nearly one and a half years of delay due to disputes.

The Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) has begun the process of allotting shops, marking the final step toward making the project operational.

Built at a cost of ₹7 crore, the food court houses 88 shops. Officials estimate an additional ₹1 crore will be spent to complete pending works. Mayor Subash Singh and CMC Commissioner Kirandeep Kaur Sahota recently inspected the site, reviewed progress, and directed officials to finish the remaining tasks quickly.

Out of the 88 shops, 45 have already been allotted online, while the remaining 43 will be distributed in the coming days.

The food court will operate under a special SOP, ensuring transparency and accountability. Shops cannot be sub-leased, and rental rates have been fixed according to category: ₹26,400 per month for Category A shops and ₹6,600 for Category B shops.

The Barabati Food Court is expected to become a vibrant hub for Cuttack’s traditional delicacies such as dahi bara aloo dum, chaat, gupchup, fast food, and other dishes.

Long-time vendors identified through surveys have been allotted cabins, with many expressing happiness at finally receiving formal space. However, some who were not allotted shops voiced dissatisfaction.

Officials confirmed that the food court will be fully functional within the next two months, ending the long wait for residents and visitors. Once operational, it is expected to boost local business, provide organized facilities for vendors, and add to the cultural charm of Cuttack’s food scene.
