Puri, Jul 17: The Jagannath Temple in Puri will remain closed from 6:30 PM to 11 PM today due to the Banakalagi niti of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra.

Following the completion of the Madhyanna Dhoopa, the Dutta Mahapatra servitors will perform ritual. During this period of time, no visitors will be allowed for the darshan of the deities.

Banakalagi Niti is a secret ritual and is conducted by Dattamapatra servitors.

Banakalagi Niti, also known as Shrimukha Sringara, is a sacred ritual performed at the Jagannath Temple in Puri, Odisha. This ceremony involves repainting the idols of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra with natural paints derived from rare forest products to refresh their divine appearances.

Natural colours like Hingula, Haritala, Kasturi, Keshar, and the glue of Kaintha are used to prepare a Banaka.
