Puri, Apr 2: The Jagannath Temple in Puri will remain closed for five hours today due to the Banakalagi ritual of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra.
The ritual will be performed following the completion of second bhoga mandap of Mahaprabhu.
According to reports, the Banakalagi ritual will be performed by Dutta Mohapatra servitors between 5 pm to 10 pm today, during which the public darshan at the 12th century shrine will remain be suspended for the said five hours.
Banakalagi Niti, also known as Shrimukha Sringara, is a sacred ritual performed at the Jagannath Temple in Puri, Odisha.
This ceremony involves repainting the idols of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra with natural paints derived from rare forest products to refresh their divine appearances.Natural colours like Hingula, Haritala, Kasturi, Keshar, and the glue of Kaintha are used to prepare a Banaka.
