Banakalagi Niti: Jagannath Temple To Remain Shut For Five Hours

Puri, Mar 19: Darshan of Shreemandir deities will remain restricted for devotees for five hours from 5 pm to 10 pm on Wednesday for the Banakalagi ritual.


The ritual will be performed following the completion of second bhoga mandap of Mahaprabhu. The Dattamahapatra Sevakas will perform this ritual on the Ratnavedi.


As this is a confidential and unique ritual, the temple administration has announced that public darshan will remain closed for approximately five hours, from 5 PM to 10 PM today. After the rituals, the darshan will resume.

However, due to the 'Banakalagi' rituals, the ASI (Archaeological Survey of India) has halted the ongoing repair work of the Ratnabhandar (Treasure Chamber).


As per tradition, the Dattamahapatra Sevakas (Servitors) and Khadiprasad Daetapati Servitors perform the rituals. Different types of natural colors like Hingula, Haritala, Kasturi, Keshar, glue of Kaintha are used to prepare a Banaka.
