Balugaon (Khordha), Aug 21: A tragic road accident occurred near Nuagada Chhak on National Highway 16 under Balugaon police limits, claiming the life of a minor and leaving six others critically injured. The incident took place when a moving auto-rickshaw suddenly overturned while traveling from Langaleswar village in Ganjam district toward Balugaon.

 

The deceased has been identified as Sukanta Nayak, a minor from Khallikote area in Ganjam district. The auto-rickshaw was reportedly carrying seven passengers at the time of the accident. Eyewitnesses stated that the vehicle lost control and flipped unexpectedly, causing severe injuries to the passengers.

 

Following the accident, the injured were rushed to Balugaon Government Hospital and nearby private medical facilities for treatment. Medical personnel confirmed that all six survivors sustained serious injuries and are currently under observation.

Shockingly, the auto-rickshaw driver fled the scene with the damaged vehicle immediately after the accident, prompting a police investigation. Balugaon police have launched a probe to trace the driver and determine the exact cause of the mishap.

 

The incident has raised concerns over road safety and the condition of passenger vehicles operating on highways. Locals have urged authorities to enforce stricter regulations on overloaded and poorly maintained auto-rickshaws, which often pose risks to commuters.
