Bhubaneswar, May 10: In a major development in the Balianta mob lynching case, disciplinary action has been initiated against several police personnel over alleged negligence and mishandling of the incident.
The Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of Balianta Police Station, Anil Parida, has been transferred to the UPD headquarters in Bhubaneswar following the controversy surrounding the case.
Apart from the transfer of the IIC, four police personnel have been suspended in connection with the incident. The suspended officials include one Sub-Inspector (SI), one Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), one personnel from the Odisha Auxiliary Police Force (OAPF) and one constable.
Additionally, two home guards have also been removed from duty as part of the departmental action initiated after the shocking mob violence incident triggered widespread public outrage.
The action comes amid mounting pressure on the police administration to ensure accountability and conduct a fair investigation into the Balianta mob lynching case. The incident had raised serious concerns over law and order as well as the response of local police during the violent episode.

Earlier, Mohan Charan Majhi directed the Crime Branch Odisha to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident. The directive was issued following a high-level review meeting held at the Lok Seva Bhavan.
The Chief Minister also instructed officials to ensure that strict and exemplary action is taken against all those found guilty.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister directed the Director General of Police (DGP) to take all necessary steps to prevent the recurrence of such incidents in the future.
