Balasore, Jul 12: A shocking incident unfolded at Fakir Mohan College in Balasore where a second-year Integrated B.Ed student, identified as Soumashree Bishi, allegedly attempted suicide by setting herself on fire within the college premises.
According to eyewitnesses, the student had been staging a sit-in protest earlier in the day, demanding justice against alleged harassment and mistreatment by the Head of Department (HoD). She reportedly accused the HoD of mental torture and abusive behaviour, which she had been enduring for an extended period.
In a tragic turn, the student suddenly poured flammable liquid on herself and set herself ablaze, shocking fellow students and staff. She was immediately rushed to Balasore District Headquarters Hospital, where she is currently undergoing treatment in a critical condition.
