Balasore, Aug 2: In a deeply disturbing incident, the body of a newborn was discovered this morning near a bridge close to Fakir Mohan University, along the national highway in Balasore’s Industrial Area police jurisdiction. The infant’s body was found packed inside a bag and dumped in a deserted spot, triggering shock and sorrow in the local community.
Upon receiving a tip-off, police launched an investigation and traced the origin of the infant to Fakir Mohan Medical College and Hospital, where the child was reportedly born on July 30. Sadly, the newborn passed away shortly after birth, and as per hospital protocol, the body was handed over to the parents for final rites.
However, instead of performing the customary funeral, the parents — identified as Prakash Chandra Behera and his wife from Belda village under Soro police limits — allegedly abandoned the body near the highway. Initially denying involvement, they later confessed after being confronted with evidence from local ASHA workers.
