Bhubaneswar, July 16: The tragic death of a 20-year-old female student of Fakir Mohan Autonomous College in Odisha’s Balasore has led to explosive revelations about the alleged misconduct of suspended lecturer and Head of the Education Department (HoD) Samir Sahu.
The victim, a second year Integrated BEd student at the FM College, who attempted self-immolation over alleged sexual harassment by HoD Sahu, succumbed to burn injuries at AIIMS-Bhubaneswar on July 14.
Following the incident, the victim’s father and several former students have come forward with serious allegations, claiming that Sahu ran a racket and had a history of abusing students across multiple institutions.
According to the victim’s father, Samir Sahu misused his position in every college he was posted to, manipulating students and jeopardizing their careers. He alleged that Sahu operated a racket targeting female students and had a disturbing track record of misconduct.
The victim’s father stated, “He (Samir Sahu) didn’t just ruin my daughter’s life—many others have suffered silently.”

✨Former students at Baji Rout Memorial College in Bhuban, where Sahu previously taught, confirmed that he had misbehaved with female students there as well. Complaints had even been lodged against him at the local police station during his tenure.
One of the victim’s close friends, Kaushis Das, revealed that Sahu’s abusive behaviour was not limited to one student. “Many girls were victims of his harassment, but no one dared to speak out. My friend did, and she paid the price with her life,” she said with grief and anger.
The case has sparked outrage across the state, with demands for a thorough investigation into Sahu’s past conduct and institutional accountability.
The police have so far arrested two persons, HoD Sahu and the principal of the college, who have also been suspended by the Odisha government in connection with the incident.
