Bhubaneswar, Jul 20: Following the horrific incident in Balanga under Nimapada block in Puri district where a minor girl suffered severe burn injuries, her brother has confirmed that preparations are underway to airlift her to AIIMS Delhi within the next few hours.
The victim sustained burns over 70–75% of her body and is currently receiving treatment at AIIMS Bhubaneswar. Authorities are reportedly accelerating documentation and logistics to ensure timely transfer for advanced care.
According to reports, the patient’s kidney and heart functions have shown slight improvement, but her lung condition remains critical. Doctors at AIIMS Bhubaneswar are working relentlessly to stabilize her before the airlift, which will be accompanied by a family member.
Meanwhile, investigations into the incident have intensified. Police have questioned over 20 individuals from the victim’s village and surrounding areas to uncover the truth behind the attack. Sources confirm that additional suspects will be summoned on Sunday by police, while special squads continue overnight raids at multiple locations to track down the culprits.

Earlier on Saturday, in response to protestors and disruptions within the AIIMS Bhubaneswar campus premises, Bhubaneswar DCP Jagmohan Meena stated that the hospital remains under a restricted zone designation until further notice.
A full platoon of police personnel has been deployed, and protestors have been warned not to interfere with patient care services, which were reportedly hampered earlier due to agitations. The AIIMS administration initially issued a notice followed by declaring the zone prohibited to maintain order.
