Balanga Burn Victim Dies At AIIMS Delhi, Odisha CM Expresses Grief

Bhubaneswar, Aug 2: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday expressed deep sorrow over the death of the minor girl who was brutally set ablaze in Balanga, Puri district. Despite the government’s efforts and round-the-clock treatment by specialists at AIIMS Delhi, the victim succumbed to her injuries, the Chief Minister said.
In a heartfelt post on X, CM Majhi said, “I am deeply anguished by the death of the girl from Balanga. Despite all efforts by the government and the dedicated medical team at AIIMS Delhi, we could not save her life. I pray for the peace of her departed soul and strength for her family to bear this irreparable loss.”
The girl, who sustained over 75% burn injuries, was airlifted to AIIMS Delhi for advanced treatment after initial care at Pipili and AIIMS Bhubaneswar. The attack occurred on July 19, when unidentified miscreants allegedly poured petrol and kerosene on her near a river embankment. She managed to escape and was rescued by locals.

✨The incident sparked widespread outrage across Odisha, prompting the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by Balanga IIC Dibya Ranjan Panda. Political parties have demanded strong action and judicial inquiry into the case, citing rising crimes against women in the state.
The Chief Minister assured full support to the victim’s family and pledged to bring the culprits to justice.
