Nimapada (Puri), Jul 19: In a deeply disturbing incident that has sent shockwaves across Odisha, a minor girl was allegedly set on fire by three miscreants in the Balanga area of Nimapada block, Puri district.

 

The attack occurred while the girl was walking home with a friend. According to eyewitness accounts, the perpetrators stopped her on the way and deliberately ignited flames that caused severe burns to her hands, legs, and other parts of her body.

 

She was immediately rushed to a local hospital and later shifted to AIIMS for advanced medical care due to the critical nature of her injuries.

 

Reacting strongly to the incident, Odisha’s Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida condemned the act and announced stringent action against the accused. She directed police officials to arrest the culprits without delay and assured that the state government will bear the complete medical expenses of the victim.

Deputy CM Parida is also scheduled to visit the victim personally at AIIMS to monitor her condition and offer support to the family. “The criminals will face strict legal consequences. This kind of brutality has no place in our society,” she stated.

 

A police investigation is underway, and initial findings suggest a targeted attack. The motive behind the crime is still being probed.
