Bhubaneswar, Jan 17: Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) demolished the controversial Shree Baikuntha Dham Ashram, which was allegedly built illegally on government land in Ghatikia near Khandagiri, here in Odisha on Friday.

A joint team of Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA), Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation and Police Commissionerate demolished the Ashram using using several bulldozers and earthmoving machines.

According to sources, the controversial ashram was built on 0.14 acres of govt land belonging to the General Administration and Public Grievances Department.

Recently, the Ashram landed in controversy after the ashram chief, identified as Kashinath Mishra, allegedly projected his minor son as a divine figure and asked devotees to worship him ‘Kalki Avatar’ an incarnation of Lord Vishnu.  

A video of the boy being worshiped with Tulsi and flower at his feet was found in social media. After this, a group of youths entered the Ashram and protested. To their astonishment, they also found costly vehicles in the Ashram. 

Later, a voluntary organisation lodged a complaint against the head of the ashram at Bharatpur police station for allegedly hurting religious sentiments of millions of people.
