The incident came to light after an audit revealed discrepancies in the cash records.

Titilagarh, Apr 21: In a shocking case of financial fraud, two employees of a private company responsible for refilling ATMs under the Titilagarh SBI Main Branch in Balangir district have been accused of embezzling ₹15.9 lakh.

The incident came to light after an audit revealed discrepancies in the cash records.

The accused, identified as Chakradhara Putel from Malisira village under Muribahal police station and Kandarpa Seth from Kachharpali village under Deogaon police station, were employed to refill ATMs.

Over time, they allegedly pocketed cash while depositing smaller amounts into the ATMs. The fraud was uncovered during a bank audit, which showed a shortfall of ₹15.9 lakh.

Following a complaint lodged by the SBI branch manager, Debasish Joshi, the Muribahal police launched an investigation and arrested the two accused.

The suspects have been sent to court, and further investigations are underway to determine if others were involved in the scam.

When approached for comments, the SBI branch manager declined to speak on the matter, stating that it is an internal issue of the bank.

The case has raised concerns about the security measures in place for handling cash and the need for stricter monitoring of ATM operations.
