Bhubaneswar, May 15: The Argus Agri Vikas Conclave Season-IV witnessed a detailed address by Agriculture Secretary Dr. Arabinda Padhee, highlighting Odisha’s record-breaking food production and progressive policies designed to empower farmers.
Optimistic Rainfall Forecast
According to Dr Padhee, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts 105% of the 30-year average rainfall this year, bringing relief and optimism to farmers. This increase is expected to improve crop yields, irrigation support, and overall agricultural productivity.
Major Achievements in Agriculture
- Odisha recorded 14.35 million tons of food grain production, setting a new milestone.
- Enterprise agriculture production reached 14.48 million tons, marking significant growth.
- The state's paddy production remains strong, reinforcing Odisha’s role as a key rice-producing state in India.
- Farmers benefitted from the Samrudh Krushak Yojana, with paddy being procured at ₹3,100 per quintal, including ₹800 input assistance.
- On average, farmers earned ₹37,000 more, with some receiving additional financial support.
Technological Advancement & Climate Resilience
The Odisha government is increasing farm power input per hectare from 2.6 kW to a targeted 3.5 kW by 2036, surpassing the national standard of 2.76 kW.
Recognising climate change challenges, the state is promoting resilient crop varieties and advancing organic farming techniques. Efforts are underway to revive forgotten food grains, ensuring sustainable agricultural practices that integrate traditional methods.
Additionally, the government is investing in educational support for farmers’ children, allocating ₹53.66 crore towards technical and professional training.
With strong policies and proactive climate adaptation strategies, Odisha’s agricultural sector is poised for long-term growth and stability.
