Key Points

Mamata Panda became a security guard at SCB Medical College to fund her son’s burn treatment.

Her son Babulu has been undergoing surgeries since 2022 after a stove explosion. Despite personal loss and financial hardship, Mamata continues to fight for her son’s recovery.

Cuttack, Sep 4: In a story that echoes the strength of maternal love, Mamata Panda from Bhanjanagar, Odisha, has become a symbol of resilience and sacrifice. After losing her husband in a tragic train accident in 2014, Mamata moved to Bhubaneswar with her young son, determined to rebuild their lives. She worked as a daily laborer and ensured her son received an education at a government school.

However, tragedy struck again in 2022 when her son, Babulu, suffered severe burns due to a stove explosion while trying to heat food alone at home. With limited financial resources, Mamata rushed him to government and private hospitals, but the treatment costs quickly drained her savings.

Faced with mounting medical expenses and no support, Mamata made an extraordinary decision—she took up a job as a security guard at SCB Medical College in Cuttack, the very hospital where her son was undergoing treatment.

For nearly two years, she has worked tirelessly, guarding hospital wards by day and standing vigil by her son’s bedside by night.
