Bhubaneswar, Dec 31:  In a historic milestone for Odisha’s administrative history, senior IAS officer Anu Garg on Wednesday assumed charge as the state’s first woman Chief Secretary. A 1991-batch officer, Garg took over from Manoj Ahuja, who retired on December 31, 2025, after serving since July 2024.

 

Historic Appointment

With this appointment, Garg not only breaks a gender barrier but also sets the stage for one of the longer tenures in the state’s top bureaucratic post. She is eligible to remain in office until March 31, 2029, giving her more than three years to shape Odisha’s governance trajectory.

 

Trailblazing Career

Garg has held several key positions in the state administration. In March 2023, she became Odisha’s first woman Development Commissioner, further cementing her reputation as a trailblazer in the bureaucracy. Her leadership has been marked by a focus on development, empowerment, and institutional strengthening.

CM’s Congratulatory Note

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi congratulated Garg, calling her appointment a “historic milestone” that reflects the government’s commitment to excellence and empowerment. “I am sure that her vast experience and vision will drive Odisha to scale new heights of development,” Majhi wrote on X. He also expressed gratitude to outgoing Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, praising his “exemplary leadership and unwavering dedication.”
